Educational Psychology in the Classroom

In the early stages allow many opportunities for students to practice their knowledge and skills.

During the latter stages of learning the student needs to have many opportunities to suceed in their activities.

Begin a task by challenging the students ie ask the students to discuss their ideas. Students should then work in groups to find out the answer to the question. Teacher walks around the groups and prompts the students to think about ideas they may not have considered. Come back together as a class and discuss the findings, look at how these were similar to and differed from the original ideas posed by the students.

Example task:
Year 6 Science Class on Matter
– Challenge: how do steam, water and ice differ?
– Students share ideas and experiment in groups
– Teacher prompts if needed (e.g. size? temp?)
